Muhlenberg College Names Kimberly Guyer Vice President for College Life

Kimberly Guyer, Ed.D., will be Muhlenberg's vice president for college life.On November 21, Muhlenberg College announced the appointment of Kimberly Guyer, Ed.D., as vice president for college life. Guyer will join the College on January 13 and serve as a member of Muhlenberg College President Kathleen Harring’s senior leadership team.
Reporting directly to Harring, Guyer will oversee a comprehensive portfolio of student-facing programs and services. She will work collaboratively across the College to promote academic achievement, personal development and a vibrant campus culture that supports every student at Muhlenberg.
“Dr. Guyer brings a remarkable depth of experience and leadership to this role,” said Harring. “Her commitment to student excellence and success aligns with Muhlenberg’s signature challenging, supportive liberal arts experience. As a liberal arts graduate, she understands the power of a Muhlenberg education and its enduring value to our graduates and the common good. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Muhlenberg community.”
Guyer joins Muhlenberg from Florida State University, where she serves as interim associate vice president and dean of students. In this role, she oversees a health, wellness and safety portfolio encompassing departments including Campus Recreation, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Student Conduct and Community Standards, among others. She leads a team of more than 300 full-time staff and manages a $53 million budget, ensuring comprehensive support for students’ well-being and development.
“Dr. Guyer has been instrumental in helping uphold our division’s commitment to student success over the health and wellness portfolio this semester,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for student affairs at Florida State University. “We are grateful for her contributions as interim associate vice president for student affairs and wish her the best on her next adventure at Muhlenberg College.”
Prior to her time at Florida State, Guyer held senior leadership roles at institutions including the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Alfred University and Temple University. Her accomplishments include overseeing the development and implementation of numerous strategic initiatives to enhance student engagement and success to create an environment where students feel welcomed and empowered from enrollment through graduation. While at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, she co-led the development of a student retention strategic plan and led the creation of data-driven retention strategies. She played a key role in navigating the pandemic while at Alfred University, including the return to campus, and raised $1 million for mental health counseling in partnership with advancement. At Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication, she grew the student affairs team to better serve students and led the creation of a career center and enrollment management team. Throughout her career of nearly 25 years, she also has been active in NASPA, the professional home for the field of student affairs, where she has held leadership positions on the advisory board for Region II and Region IV-West for the past nine years.

I am also thrilled to be returning to my home state of Pennsylvania.”
Guyer earned her Doctor of Education in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania and holds master’s degrees in education and human resources management from the University of Pennsylvania and Hawai‘i Pacific University, respectively. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish from Susquehanna University and has completed advanced leadership programs through Harvard University and the HERS Leadership Institute.
