Imagine the world through the lens of someone else’s experiences, values, culture, and religion. Think about how all of those factors inform their thoughts and actions - how understanding that context affects your perception of our community.

Empathy for and understanding of the human condition and the religious responses to it are at the heart of everything we do at the Institute.

Join us as we welcome our guests to share their WorldViews.

The Chabad Lubavitch Movement
with Rabbi Boruch Greenberg

The Chabad Lubavitch movement, now headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, is an important and growing aspect of contemporary Judaism in the Lehigh Valley and the Northeastern United States more generally. Teaching a return to traditional ritual practices, this group defies contemporary trends away from formal observance of ancient custom. This conversation will shed light on the relationship of this group to other forms of Judaism and consider its local manifestations in the context of the larger movement.

Indigenous African Religious Practice in the Contemporary World
with Falres Ilomo

Indigenous African religious practice is, at best, poorly understood and, at worst, derided as superstition in many contemporary cultural contexts. Our guest, Dr. Falres Ilomo has worked to foster a more sophisticated understanding of these traditional practices. In addition to tackling basic questions about traditional African religious belief and practice, this conversation will also address the relationship of these traditions to the other major religions in Tanzania, Christianity and Islam.
